Virginia Davis Weber Scholarship

Virginia Ruth Davis Crew Weber was born in Winchester in 1909 to Earl C. and Mamie Davis. She graduated from Winchester High School with the Class of 1927, then attended the National College of Education in Evanston, IL, where she became certified as a teacher. Later she also attended Earlham College and Ball State University to earn her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. “Miss Virginia,” as she was known to her elementary students, taught in Wilmette, IL, Winchester, and Centerville before retiring in 1973. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Winchester, then later, the Trinity Lutheran Church in Richmond. She was also a member of Tri Kappa social sorority and Delta Kappa Gamma, Teacher’s Honorary Sorority. She and her first husband, Murray Crew, built a new home on the outskirts of Winchester on east SR 32, where they resided during the years she taught at Central Elementary School in Winchester. Following Crew’s death, she married Louis Weber and moved to Wayne County, where she continued teaching and helping to raise his three children. Later, the Weber’s fostered Leland and Gayle Smith of the Centerville area. Virginia Crew Weber was a magnificent elementary teacher who loved children every day of her career.

The Virginia Davis Weber scholarship is given to a senior planning to further their education. The criteria for this scholarship include: academic leadership, financial need, probable success, attended WCHS their junior and senior year with preference to the pursuit of a degree in pre-school, kindergarten, elementary education, or high school education.
