Robert G. Jones was a native of Modoc, Indiana. Mr. Jones became well known as an educator in much of eastern Indiana. After earning a bachelor’s degree from DePauw University and a master’s degree from Indiana University he returned to Randolph County in to teach and serving from 1939 to 1956 either as principal of Huntsville or Union Township High School. From 1957 to 1976 he served as the principal of Winchester High School and Winchester Community High School. He served locally as a Trustee of the Winchester Foundation, a director of the Peoples Loan and Trust Bank Company, and as a trustee of the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA). He was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Winchester.
The recipient of this scholarship is selected based on academic achievement, leadership, ability, need and probable success in his/her field. He or she must have been enrolled in WCHS during his/her eleventh and twelfth years of school. Preference is given to applicants who want to pursue an education in the field of teaching.
