Gary Horner graduated of Winchester Community High School in 1968 and later obtained a bachelor’s degree from Manchester College and a master’s degree from Ball State University. He was an educator for 35 years, teaching science and social studies at Spartanburg Junior High, Driver Middle School, and Winchester Community High School.
He coached middle school football, basketball, and track. Gary tragically passed away in 2008 the week before school was to begin. For the last 15 years of his life, he was the head coach of the Lady Falcons basketball team, winning 71% of his games and 16 championships. Coach Horner served as an outstanding example and role model for students and staff. He was a strong Christian, devoted family man and one who was known for putting the needs of others before his own. This scholarship is being presented in memory of Coach Gary Horner by his family to honor the values he demonstrated.
