Community Foundation of Randolph County Awarded Civic Education Grant

The Community Foundation of Randolph County (CFRC) has been awarded a grant of $3,000 from Indiana Humanities with funds from the A More Perfect Union Initiative. The grant provides tax-exempt organizations across the state with funding to develop and implement public programs that promote civic education and help address the civic health challenges that Indiana faces. CFRC is one of 10 organizations across the state to receive funds.

Indiana Humanities awarded more than $45,000 in funding via the National Endowment for the Humanities’ A More Perfect Union Initiative. The purpose of the initiative is to advance civic education and to prepare for the commemoration of the 250th anniversary in 2026 of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. “Active and informed citizens are the lifeblood of a healthy democracy,” said Keira Amstutz, president and CEO at Indiana Humanities. “We are grateful to the National Endowment for the Humanities for providing this funding, which will support civic education projects across Indiana and encourage Hoosiers to reflect upon civic engagement and participation.”

The Community Foundation of Randolph County is using the funding for our “Ideals of a More Perfect Union” project. We plan to host 3 lectures and 1 colloquium on Education & Civil Discourse in A More Perfect Union, The Economics of A More Perfect Union, and Historical Perspectives on A More Perfect Union. Each lecture will be given by a humanities scholar, and the colloquium aims to have all 3 scholars return for fruitful discussion that moves the ideal of A More Perfect Union forward in our community.

Our goal with this project (much like the goal of Indiana Humanities) is to foster civil discourse, deepen understanding of the American experience, and help the public understand how informed, active civic engagement strengthens our country’s democracy.

The events are open to the public. The first event, Education & Civil Discourse in A More Perfect Union with Dr. Kenneth Holland, will be on January 27th at 12pm at the Towne Square Community Centre in Winchester. Lunch will be provided. Please RSVP by 1/21/22 at lrowles@randolphcountyfoundation.org or 765.584.9077.
